What is the difference between CNC Turned and Milled Part ?

2023-09-06

1. Different characteristics

Turning means that lathe processing is a part of machining. Lathe processing mainly uses turning tools to turn rotating workpieces. Lathes are mainly used to process shafts, disks, sleeves and other workpieces with rotating surfaces, and are the most widely used type of machine tool processing in machinery manufacturing and repair factories.

CNC lathes can process complex rotary shapes. Milling is to fix the blank, and use a high-speed rotating milling cutter to move on the blank to cut out the required shape and features. Traditional milling is mostly used for simple shape features such as milling contours and slots.

2. Different functions

Turning is a method of cutting a workpiece on a lathe by using the rotation of the workpiece relative to the tool. Cutting energy in turning operations is primarily provided by the workpiece rather than the tool

The milling and boring machining center can perform three-axis or multi-axis milling and boring processing, which is used for processing, molds, inspection tools, molds, thin-walled complex surfaces, artificial prostheses, blades, etc. When selecting the content of CNC milling, the advantages and key roles of CNC milling machines should be fully utilized.

3. Different working principles

During turning, the workpiece is driven by the spindle of the machine tool to rotate as the main movement; the turning tool clamped on the tool holder makes the feed movement. The cutting speed v is the linear velocity (m/min) at the contact point between the rotating workpiece processing surface and the turning tool; the cutting depth is the vertical distance (mm) between the workpiece surface to be processed and the processed surface in each cutting stroke, but in For cut-off and form turning, it is the contact length (mm) between the turning tool and the workpiece perpendicular to the direction of feed.

Machine tools for milling include horizontal milling machines or vertical milling machines, as well as large gantry milling machines. These machine tools can be ordinary machine tools or CNC machine tools. Cutting with a rotating milling cutter as a tool. Milling is generally carried out on a milling machine or a boring machine, which is suitable for processing planes, grooves, various forming surfaces (such as splines, gears and threads) and special surfaces of molds.
